Interview with David
He was a master magician by the age of 16. His
showmanship transformed a vaudeville* sideshow into a modern
entertainment. David Copperfield is synonymous* with magic. He
has performed for more people than any other illusionist in
history, including the legendary Harry Houdini. He
revolutionized magic, making it a spectacle* on a grand scale
and astounding* millions with his seemingly impossible tricks.
Q: You do almost 500 performances a year. Do you ever think of
slowing down? A: Well, fortunately, I love what I do, so even
with this schedule, I never tire of performing in my chosen
profession, the Art of Magic! Q: When did you first become
interested in magic?A: I became interested in magic at an
early age. I learned a card trick from my grandfather when I
was 7, which involved four aces*. Unfortunately, my
grandfather passed away* before he ever got to see me do it
for the public. Q: What advice do you give to up-and-coming
magicians? A: For those that aspire to a life in the Art of
Magic, I would say, “Practice, practice, practice, and never
consider anything impossible!” Q: After years of performing
magic, how do you keep the illusions fresh? A: One of the new
illusions is to vanish* 13 randomly* selected people from the
audience and make them vanish from the stage. This was a very
difficult task and took many years to perfect. However, many
of those that vanish have been known to reappear in strange
places. Without giving away any secrets, participants* are as
amazed as the audiences themselves!
