moves to resume positive contacts between North and South

in airstrikes BAGHDAD (July 19-AP) — U.S.-British bombing
raids (袭击) in Iraq killed five people from the same family and
injured 17, a military spokesman (军方发言人) said Friday. The

which had been neutral (中立) for 200 years, formally (正式地)
requested membership in the United Nations. Switzerland’s U.N.
observer Jeno Staehelin handed the letter from President
Kaspar Villiger to Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who said he
was delighted that Swiss voters approved joining the United
Nations last March. It will become either the 190th or 191st
member of the world body.
