Chuck's Chat Box (C) Melody, does this bus go to OCT
(Hua Qiao Cheng) Wal-Mart? (M) Umm-hmmm! (a lazy way
of saying “yes” without opening your mouth…just grunt!)
(C ) How long will it take to get there? I don’t
want to be late for my English Corner with the kids. You
know they expect me to be punctual every Saturday. (M) I
know, Chuck. It should only take about 15 minutes. Don't
worry! You can begin promptly at 6 p.m. as usual.
New Words: “punctual” and “prompt” (regarding
to time) ---- mean not to be late; arriving,
happening, doing something, etc., at the exact or agreed upon
time. “Take” has a lot of meanings. Here it means
“time spent/time passed.” So, “how long will it take to
get there?”has the meaning“How much time will pass before I
arrive at my destination?” or“How much time will I spend
arriving at my destination?”
