TWO migrant workers were buried by a landslide while
clearing a road on a hill in Buji Township in heavy rain
Saturday morning, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday. One of
the men suffocated while the other was badly injured and
recovering in hospital, the report said. The two men, from
Sichuan Province, were clearing an earlier landslide on the
hill in Qiushui-shan Park, Nanling Village.Heavy rain over
several days was believed to be the cause of the
landslide.According to doctors in Nanling Hospital, the
accident happened at about 8 a.m. They arrived at the site
five minutes after receiving a call for help. The head of
Nanling Village was supervising rescue workers trying to dig
out the buried workers. Ten minutes later, Wan Shaogui was
freed and Tu Yongzhen was found after another 10 minutes’
digging. Both were taken to Nanling Hospital where doctors
were unable to revive Tu.Wan Shaogui told reporters he had not
expected to live. “When the clay pushed down on me, I thought
I would die for sure,” Wan said. (Peng Zhaoxia)
