Local Internet surfers top the country
SHENZHEN netizens spend some 151.8 yuan (US$18) in
surfing the Internet per month this year, an increase of 16.68
percent year-on-year.Netizens spend 11.9 hours on Internet per
week, that is, 1.7 hours a day, and 36.4 percent of them spend
more than 10 hours on the Internet per week, yesterday’s
Shenzhen Economic Daily quoted a survey as saying. Local
netizens spend 3.4 hours more than the national average per
week, according to the report. About 49.5 percent of Shenzhen
netizens surf the Internet at their own expenses while only 20
percent at public expense. That indicates 80 percent of
Shenzhen netizens pay their own expenses, either fully or
partly, the survey said. Each Shenzhen netizen has spent an
average of 2.9 years on the Internet, an increase of 0.33
year-on-year. Male netizens have as long as 3.1 years’
experience on the Internet while females 2.4 years.Most of the
local netizens have their own email boxes and they received
and sent 11.8 and 7.3 emails averagely per week, according to
the survey.Browsing news, entertainment information,
electronic books and information in computer software,
hardware, technology and education are what the netizens
favor.According to statistics, the number of Internet users in
the city has soared to over 1.5 million, a 100 percent
year-on-year increase, accounting for 40 percent of the total
netizens in Guangdong Province. The average age of Shenzhen
netizens is 25.4, among whom males make up 66 percent and
females 34 percent. About 40 percent of local netizens hold a
