Shenzhen plans more wetlands
SHENZHEN will construct three areas of artificial
wetlands that will treat sewage and create landscapes at the
same time, a newspaper said Saturday.The municipal government
plans to invest 18 million yuan (US$2.18 million) this year to
construct the three lots of wetlands at Shiyan Reservoir in
Bao’an District, Gankeng Reservoir in Longgang District and
Honghu Park in Luohu District, according to the Southern
Metropolitan News. Quoting sources from Shenzhen Environmental
Science Research Institute, the paper said the three areas of
wetlands would be capable of treating 35,000 tons of household
sewage each day. The designs had been completed, the institute
told the News.“Wetland is more effective than trees and grass
in adjusting urban ecological environment,” Lei Zhihong was
quoted as saying.“Artificial wetlands are sewage treatment
plants and landscapes as well,” Lei said.
