DAZZLING lights from a hotel building have sparked criticism from the public with concern that they might cause traffic accidents.The hotel, located in the bustling downtown area at a crossroad between Huaxin Road and Huaqiang Road North, installed the lights at a cost of 20,000 yuan (US$2,400). The lights were put into use Friday and are projected into the night sky between 7 p.m. and midnight every night.The lights were usually installed at karaoke bars or discos, a Mr. Xu of the hotel’s engineering department told reporters.Regulated by a computer, the lights were installed to attract more customers to the hotel, Mr. Xu said.However, many people have complained about the dazzling lights, saying the beams made them feel dizzy and uncomfortable.One resident claimed the strong lights could harm people’s health and cause traffic accidents if drivers passing the area were dazzled.
