(Continued) After I got into the car, he coldly said,
“Fasten your seat belt!” and nothing else. When I heard his
cold words, I felt so nervous I could hardly fasten my seat
belt! On the way home, we were both silent. “God, I don’t want
to be badly treated!” I thought. My “life” there was bad.
Every day I had greasy food. I couldn’t stand it. In his house
it seemed there was no difference between a refugee and a
student like me. Every time I ate a meal I felt sick to my
stomach! The food, such as fried potato chips, fish sticks,
etc., was very unhealthy. From the medical point of view,
eating fried food greatly increases the chance of putting on
weight, causing heart disease, hypertension and so on. I
wanted meat and vegetables so I told them that since I studied
for a long time every day I needed to have some food rich in
protein and vitamins. If not, I would lack the energy to get
through my day. Because of my attitude, the food changed a
little. I remembered one thing that really annoyed me. One day
I used two eggs to make a Chinese dish “fried eggs with
tomato,” and the next day, I found that all of the leftover
eggs had disappeared. I couldn’t find them anywhere! (To be
continued)
