HIGH earners in 13 categories have been put on a watch
list by Shenzhen taxation authorities as the city steps up its
crackdown on rampant tax evasion by the new rich.
The revelation came as officials in Beijing vowed to carry
on a national crackdown on tax evaders launched last month
through the end of the year. Authorities will exact a “heavy
price” from those found guilty, Xinhua News Agency said
yesterday.
Senior corporate executives and board members, private
businessmen, sports stars and college professors are among the
13 categories Shenzhen taxation officials will keep an eye on,
local media reports said.
Special files will be established to monitor tax payments
by high-earners, who will have taxation numbers for the first
time in the city.
The code system will enable tax officials to keep track of
the taxpayers more easily wherever they move.
Meanwhile, measures will also be taken to tackle problems
such as multiple-income and gray income, media reports
said.(Hu Zheye)
