AFTER spending two years at Beijing’s Concord College of
Sino-Canada as a superintendent, Vernon Goodfellow takes up
his new post at Nanshan International School of Sino-Canada
today.
As principal, he is responsible for the new school’s
curricula and teaching arrangements. “I feel very excited
about the opportunity to use Canadian curricula on such an
international set,” said Vernon at an interview last week.
The school has enrolled more than 60 students from 16
countries including the U.S., Australia, Korea and Malaysia.
Vernon was quite impressed with the city’s scenery and fast
economic growth during his four to five trips to Shenzhen to
organize the new school, which is a cooperative venture of
Nanshan District Government and New Brunswick Government,
Canada. With 35 years’ experience in school administration in
Canada, Vernon wants his school to be a real international
one.
“The school is an international family, the teachers you
see here are from different countries including Canada and
Australia.”The courses offered are much the same as those in
Canada, except the students have to learn Mandarin as a second
foreign language.
Vernon is a cycling enthusiast and twice a week, he
squeezes in some time to enjoy the city’s night lights, food
and beaches by bicycle. |
