SHENZHEN University has become the second largest
university in Guangdong Province, following Jinan University,
in the number of overseas students.
Sources from the university’s foreign affair’s office
indicated the university hit a record high by attracting 54
overseas students from South Korea, Japan, Canada, Indonesia,
Hong Kong and Macao this year. On an average, the university
recruits only three to four students from Hong Kong and Macao
each year, but 24 students had registered for four-year,
full-time study at the university, according to Gao Litian,
director of the office.
Together with Chinese students, they will study law,
international economics and trade, Chinese language,
architecture and golf management.
Four students from South Korea will continue studies for
their masters’ degrees in Chinese literature and modern
enterprise management. The number of foreign students at the
university has grown immensely in the past two years. Over 500
overseas students are now studying at the university including
300 students who have to pass HSK (Chinese Language
Proficiency Text) before submitting applications for courses
at the university, according to the office.
The university has established cooperative relationships
with over 10 universities in New Zealand, South Korea,
Australia and Canada.
