If you ask around, many would say that the music world has a new leader: the real king, Jay Chow!A music prodigy (天才), Taiwan singer Jay Chow is skilled and trained in both contemporary and classical music. His talents are also seen through many songs written by Chow for other well-known artists, such as Taiwan singers Coco Lee and Valen Hsu. At the age of 23, Chow is a song writer, the producer for his three albums, and the lyricist for most of the songs.On August 30, Jay Chow went to Guangzhou for the “Pepsi & Jay promotion event,” and was introduced to about 300 of his fans. During the event, Chow answered questions from fans and reporters.

　　Q: Where does your creative inspiration come from?Chow: I take my recorder with me wherever I go. When I have a feeling about something, I record it.Q: Your life seems to be perfect now that you’ve broken into the music industry. You like what you do and you can make a lot of money by shooting ads. Do you have any regrets?C: I don’t have freedom. For example, if I want to eat a bowl of noodle outside, I can’t just wear a pair of slippers since people would say, “Hey, look! It’s Jay. He looks just so-so.”

　　Q: What’s your personality in your real life?C: I don’t like to talk too much. I don’t have a lot of friends.

　　Q: Are you currently dating Cai Yilin (a Taiwan singer)?C: We’re just friends. I have many ideas about what love’s like. I value feelings more than how someone looks. I like a girl who doesn’t talk too much.

　　Q: When your third album 8D came out, many people criticized it, saying that this album is quite identical to the previous ones. What do you think of it?C: I just want to continue my style. I don’t have to change it. Like Jackie Chan, his style in his movie is always the same. If it is good and people like it, why change it? If you listen to the music attentively, you can understand it and may appreciate it.

　　Chow spoke about his childhood. He said that as a child, he was not good at academic subjects, and when he did not get into college many people predicted that he would not have much protential for a good life. His mother worried about his future, but he never did.He said, “I knew I could depend on music. My musical talent gives me confidence.”Not as beautiful as some other stars, Chow obviously attained fans’ love and critics’ appreciation for his talent.
