| In the past,
I often went shopping with Mum. When we bought something, Mum
sometimes would argue with the seller for two yuan or five
yuan.
And the argument often lasted for a long time, so I always
said to Mum without patience, “Mum, stop it please! That’s
just little money!”“Is it only a little money? Then show me
five yuan which is earned by you, can you? Er?” Mum always
answered me a little bit angrily. In that case, I would have
no word to say, for I had never earned even one yuan by
myself.It is a pity, certainly.
When I was still in Junior Three, I thought about finding
a job during summer or winter vacation. I could wash plates or
be a seller in order to make money by myself.
I could also learn more about society through working. But
to my disappointment, businessmen seldom hire students who
have no working experience. So I never had a chance to earn
money by myself. This condition lasted till the end of last
term. On the last day, I got a big surprise.
I received a money order. It was from Shenzhen Daily! Just
then, I remembered that I took part in Shenzhen Daily’s
translation contest three months ago. It never occured to me
that I would be paid.
I just wanted to improve my English ability. But I got it.
It was really an extra happiness.Today, I went to the post
office to draw money. Although the money wasn’t much, I was
very happy because it was my first pay.
At noon, I spent the money on two bowls of Guilin rice
flour noodles for lunch, one for me, the other for Mum. It
wasn’t a big and rich meal, but Mum and I both enjoyed it. So
did my little doggy! Because I didn’t forget to share my beef
with my canine friend. It’s much easier to spend money than to
earn.
I did not realize it untill I got my first paycheck. I
will never forget it.
