  Carriers inspecting 1,440 Boeing jets for faulty fuel pumps WASHINGTON (Aug. 31 —AP): U.S.-based airlines have been ordered by the Federal Aviation Authority ( 联邦航空局) to inspect 1,440 Boeing jets to determine if they have a potentially faulty fuel pump that could cause an explosion. Poor march on Earth SummitJOHANNESBURG (Aug. 31 — Reuters): Thousands of protesters marched on the Earth Summit (地球会议) to demand world leaders end the “global apartheid (全球种族隔离)” dividing Johannesburg’s (约翰内斯堡) poor shanty (简陋小屋) townships from the summit halls in a wealthy white suburb.
