OVER 1.3 million yuan has been donated by 30 Shekou
companies to help rebuild a flood-ravaged middle school and
commune hospital in Foping County, Shaanxi Province. A
ceremony was held yesterday to highlight the charity
event.“All corporate entities have responsibilities to repay
the society and help the needy,” said Fang Zhi, president of
the Shenzhen subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil
Corporation, which initiated the fund-raising.The Shekou
petroleum community, represented by dozens of companies from
different countries, has a history of helping the
flood-stricken people of China. It raised funds in 1998 and
2001 to help the relief effort in areas such as Inner Mongolia
which experienced severe damage.“When it comes to social
investment, we can cooperate to make a larger impact than any
of us alone,” said Greg Rohloff on behalf of BP China
Exploration and Production Company, one of the corporate
donors. At the ceremony, special thanks were given to BP
China, Chevron Texaco, JHN Oil Operating Company, Devon Energy
China Limited, China Offshore Oil Nanhai East Corporation,
Statoil (Orient) Inc. and Agip China for contributing most
towards the donation.
