A HONG KONG company has recalled and destroyed its moon
cakes because of quality problems.During a sample survey
September 4, the Shenzhen Municipal Health Bureau found that
the lotus seed paste moon cakes with double-egg yolk, produced
by the Hong Kong Wing Hua Bakery Co. Ltd., were not up to
standard, containing dangerous amounts of bacteria. An official
of Wing Hua was quoted by yesterday’s Shenzhen Special Zone
Daily as saying the case was an isolated one. The problem was
caused by damage to the packing paper during transport, the
official said. “We added no preservatives to the moon cakes
and all the cakes were vacuum-packed.”All 200 cartons of Wing
Hua moon cakes on the Shenzhen market had passed checks by
Shenzhen’s quarantine authorities, the report said. However,
the local health authorities are going to recheck the
shipments, with the result expected to be known this week, the
paper said.
