A PERSON with cholelithiasis can suddenly exasperate his
or her disease by eating too much moon cake.
Too much moon cake can also cause acute pancreatitis,
which is generally accompanied by fierce abdominal pains.
Since moon cakes contain a lot of sugar and fat, they can
aggravate such ailments as high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia
and coronary disease, by increasing blood viscosity and
decreasing blood flow to the heart. They can in extreme cases
provoke heart attacks.
Moon cakes, like all things sweet, can increase the sugar
content in the blood of a person with diabetes.
There have been cases where diabetic patients went into
comas after eating moon cakes.
And finally, moon cakes speed up secretion of gastric
acid. Therefore, those who have stomach troubles may feel
great pain after eating them. Increasing secretions of gastric
acid can also deter the healing of duodenal ulcers.
