“Well, what’s the bad news?” the artist interrupted.
“The bad news is that we have to remove your paintings if
nobody will buy them by the day after tomorrow. I regret to
say that, sir,” she said.
He kept calm. He stared at his paintings and shook his
head, sighing.
“Please...” he said in a very low voice.
“Yes?” she answered.
“Please tell the man who was interested in my work that
whether or not a painting is of value doesn’t depend on
whether its artist is famous. Its value hides in people’s
minds. For the people who understand and appreciate the
painting, it is valuable...” he stopped.
On hearing this, the gallery owner was moved. She
immediately picked up the phone and told the same words to the
interested guy. Also moved, the guy promised to buy all the
artist’s works.
“Latest good news, sir. I think we’ve just sold all your
paintings...” she announced loudly to the artist.
