THE International Development Evaluation Association
(IDEAS), the first international evaluation organization, was
set up in Beijing Wednesday.
The association, jointly sponsored by evaluation offices
of the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program,
was established after a three-day meeting attended by more
than 100 evaluators from throughout the world.
Sulley Gariba, an expert on policy evaluation from Ghana,
was elected president of IDEAS.
IDEAS would bring together all professional evaluators in
the world to exchange their ideas and experiences, Gariba
said. It was the first opportunity for evaluators from
developing countries to share knowledge with their
counterparts from developed countries.
Through the joint efforts of the international community,
the profile of the evaluation business, which mainly monitors
public projects, would be markedly raised, he said.(Xinhua)
