Lance Bass was born on May 4, 1979 in Laurel,
Mississippi. Soon after Lance was born the Bass family moved
from Laurel to Clinton, Mississippi. Clinton is a small town
and it had a large influence on Lance.
“Everyone knows everyone,” he says. “I was born in a
really small town in southern Mississippi where you didn’t
have to keep your doors locked and things like that. As a kid
I was very secure. I wasn’t scared of anything.”
Lance and his sister used to entertain the family by
dressing up and performing from a young age and it was no
surprise that the 11-year-old Lance joined the local choir
(唱师班). This choir toured successfully throughout the nation.
The young man with blonde (金色的) hair and green eyes is
also talented in natural sciences and he wanted to become an
astronaut. What finally convinced him that show business
(娱乐性行业) was his future was seeing his musical idol (偶像)Garth
Brooks in concert.
“Musically, I admire Garth Brooks a lot through his
per-formances. I guess he’s the main one I look up to. His was
the first time I went to a concert and thought that’s what I
want to do on stage.”
It was a difficult job to convince Lance, who is more the
domestic-type (恋家型的), to move to Orlando. He was trying to
finish high school and had been accepted to the University of
Nebraska.
His friends Justin, Joey Chris and JC are obviously
extremely persuasive, as Lance became the fifth member of
’NSYNC moving with his family to Orlando.
The five young men have meanwhile become such good
friends that they look like five brothers whom you could even
discuss your problems with.
Lance is also a sport fan. His sports of choice are
baseball and swimming.
Lance has also been bitten by the acting bug. He
guest-starred on 7th Heaven, where he kissed Beverley
Mitchell. “She’s a great kisser,” he admits. “But it’s an
acting kiss. It’s weird (奇怪的) when there are 50 people staring
at you. It’s a lot harder than people think, with cameras
everywhere — and I had to lose the southern accent (口音).”
In 2002, Bass was trying to become the third civilian
(公民) in space. He might also be the first pop star in space
and, at 23, the youngest astronaut.
He took his goal seriously, signing a preliminary (预备)
contract (合同) in July, 2002.
However, Lance’s dream of the space flight may not come
true since his sponsors failed to pay for his US$20 million
ticket recently. As to the result, let’s wait and see and wish
him good luck.
