5 children killed
in Russia
MOSCOW (Sept.14—AP): Five children were killed in an
explosion in Volgograd (伏尔加格勒). The children, all ranging from
5 to 7 years old, were reported missing Friday. Police found
their remains on the outskirts (市郊) Saturday morning. They had
probably happened upon a World War II-era mine (地雷), which
exploded when they touched it.
5 al Qaeda suspects to appear in court
BUFFALO (Sept.14—Reuters): Five suspected al Qaeda (基地组织)
operatives, who were of Yemeni descent (也门血统) and arrested in
upstate New York were due to appear before a U.S. magistrate
(地方官员) in district court in Buffalo Saturday.

one, injures 37
ETHIOPIA (Sept.12—AP), A bomb exploded inside a hotel in
the Ethiopian (埃塞俄比亚) capital, killing one woman and injuring
37 other people.
At least 80 dead in Indian train derails
INDIA (Sept.10—AP): An express train jumped the tracks on
its way from Calcutta to New Delhi, sending one car plunging
into a river and leaving two others dangling from a bridge. At
least 80 passengers were killed and 170 injured.
Rebels attack police post in Nepal
KATMANDU (Sept.8—AP): Hundreds of leftist rebels attacked
a police station in a mountain village Sunday, killing at
least 49 policemen and wounding 21 others.
