PREMIER Zhu Rongji said the Communist Party of China
would keep abreast of the times and uphold the reform and
opening policies at the national congress.
He made the remarks at a meeting with top Austrian
officials in Vienna.
Zhu offered no details about the Party congress scheduled
for Nov. 8. Reports have said the upcoming congress would make
a historic move by writing the “Three Represents” theory, put
forward by CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin, into the Party
constitution.
This would enable the Party to welcome outstanding
members from other social groups, including the private
sector, into its ranks.
Austria was the first leg of Zhu’s European visit. He is
also scheduled to attend an Asia-Europe summit and an EU-China
summit in Denmark, and pay official visits to Denmark and
France.
Zhu was scheduled to travel to Denmark yesterday for the
Asia-Europe summit.
Korean reconciliation, the possibility of a war against
Iraq and terrorism loom large over a two-day meeting of 25
Asian and EU leaders opening today in Copenhagen.
