A GUANGZHOU resident surnamed Zeng almost lost a 120,000
yuan bank deposit for using an alias for his bank account.
He alledgedly changed the name believing it would bring
him good luck.
It was only by the intervention of a district court that
Zeng finally got his money back.
But the court also ruled that Zeng had violated State
regulations regarding management of personal ID cards and had
disturbed public order by using a fake ID card to open the
account.
In September last year, Zeng opened an account at a
Guangzhou-based bank with a counterfeit personal ID card, and
put in about 210,000 yuan. When there was still 120,000 yuan
left in the account, Zeng lost his bankbook.
After he reported the loss to the bank, Zeng failed to
produce supporting documents for his fake ID card, so the bank
turned down his request to withdraw the rest of his money.
Zeng took the bank to court, which, through handwriting
verification, proved Zeng was the real depositor.
Zeng was able to get his money back from the bank, but
had to pay about 5,000 yuan as the verification fee.
Meanwhile, the court decided Zeng was guilty of using a fake
ID card and needed to be penalized.(Wu Yan)
