WAL-MART China will open a new supercenter in Shenzhen
today, its eighth in the city and 22nd in China.
The opening will be marked by a donation of goods worth
100,000 yuan (US$12,000) to the neighborhood’s senior
citizens.
Located inside the Baihua Building in Shangbu Road, south
of the Shenzhen Stadium, the new shop covers an area of 18,700
square meters with parking for 100 cars.
The supercenter’s first floor serves as a checkout
counter while also selling cosmetics. The second floor is the
food department and the third floor is for clothing and
household electronic appliances among other things.
According to a spokesperson, 95 percent of its more than
20,000 commodities are made in China.
Nikita Huang, a public relation officer with Wal-Mart
China, said the new outlet represented an investment of 40
million yuan with 500 job opportunities.
Wal-Mart China has employed 12,000 people throughout the
country since first opening in China in Shenzhen in 1996.
By the end of this month, Wal-Mart will have opened 4,546
outlets throughout the world, employing a total of 1.38
million people.
