TOUR packages to Three Gorges, on China’s longest
waterway the Yangtze River, are selling well in Taiwan.
Central China’s Hubei Province has registered a 645.6
percent year on year increase in tourists from Taiwan.
According to the Tourism Bureau of Hubei, where part of
the Three Gorges is located, this tour has been a hot item for
Taiwanese tourists since they began tours to the mainland in
1989.
With the original features and famous landscape about to
give way to the changes associated with the construction of
the massive dam project, large numbers of tourists are rushing
to the Three Gorges to get a final look. More than 190,000
tourists from Taiwan have visited the Gorges over the past
eight months.
Since all of the boat tours on the Three Gorges have
already been booked for September and October by European,
American and Japanese travel agencies, Taiwanese agencies have
resorted to promoting winter tours and tours for 2003.
