Guardrail collapse
FAN QI, principal of the No.2 Middle School in Fengzhen,
in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was detained for
negligence over the school’s guardrail collapse Monday when at
least 21 students were killed and another 47 injured.
Others found responsible for the accident were also
detained by the local security department, including the
deputy principal, a department head, the security chief and a
building developer.
The local security authority’s investigation found that
the collapse was due to ill-management in the school with
damaged lamps, excessive student numbers and negligence.
Genetic ID card
CHINA has developed the technology on trial to produce
bar-coded identification cards containing the cardholder’s
genetic information, Science & Technology Daily reported
yesterday.
The Genetic Institute of the Henan Provincial People’s
Hospital in Zhengzhou, capital of Central China’s Henan
Province, created a test ID card earlier this week for a
Zhengzhou resident, according to the newspaper published by
the Ministry of Sciences and Technology.
About the size of a traditional ID, the card is the first
of its kind on the Chinese mainland.
CDMA subscribers
THE CDMA (Code Division MultipleAccess) mobile
telecommunications network, that started official operations
in China in early January, now has more than 100,000
subscribers in Shanghai, the country’s largest city.
