 More buses for beaches

AT least another 200 buses will shuttle between the city and beaches in the eastern area to deal with the expected passenger rush during the National Day holidays.

There are only five bus lines servicing the beaches, Nos. 103, 208, 360, 364 and 380.

The operation time for each bus line will be extended to take into consideration increased passenger flows.

The potential of traffic jams in the Wutong Mountain Tunnel and the No. 1 bridge between Yantian and Shatoujiao during the holidays has aroused many people’s concern as the holidays approach.

They suggested departments concerned improve toll collecting efficiency in the tunnel and improve the management of container trucks on the bridge.

2.3m Shenzheners to hit the road

ABOUT 2.3 million Shenzhen residents will leave the city for domestic or foreign tours during the National Day holidays.

The majority of Shenzheners still choose tourist attractions in Guangdong Province as their top destinations, yesterday’s Daily Sunshine reported.

With the procedure for going abroad streamlined, an increasing number of Shenzhen residents have signed up for foreign tours during the week-long break. This National Day break will see 7.2 percent of Shenzhen residents traveling abroad, 2 percent more than last National Day holidays, the Daily’s report said.

Per capita tourism expenditure for Shenzhen residents will reach 1,910 yuan (US$229.2) during the holiday break, 165 yuan more than last year, a survey jointly conducted by the municipal holiday office and the urban research team shows.

Internet lists speed up border crossings

TRAVEL agencies have been able to file information on border-crossing tourist groups beforehand through the Internet in Shenzhen from Wednesday.

In the past, many travelers had no entry or exit records in the checkpoint database and their names, travel document numbers and other information had to be input on the spot, causing delays.

But with the Internet filing service, travel agencies can upload a tourist list to the checkpoints beforehand and police only need to verify their identities. Travel agencies can also make appointments for processing tourist groups, which helps the checkpoints to schedule shifts.

The service has been hailed as a big boost for Guangdong tourism.
