In Arsenal's win, Nigerian Kanu notched two as Arsenal
scored in a record-47th consecutive league match. The mark
topped the old record of 46 set in 1929-30 by Chesterfield. It
was Arsenal's 29th unbeaten game in the Premier League to
equal Manchester United's record, and also an English record
of 23 straight away games unbeaten.
Kanu scored after just nine minutes and again in the
86th. Ivory Coast international Kolo Toure and Thierry Henry
also found the back of the net. Australian Harry Kewell scored
for Leeds.
Middlesbrough now finds itself near the top of the
standing thanks to goals from Massimo Maccarone, Njitap Teremi
and Joseph-Desire Joe.
Manchester United trailed 1-0 at halftime on a goal by
Charlton's Claus Jensen, but roared back in the second with
Ryan Giggs, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Paul Scholes getting the
others. Scholes returned after knee surgery only three weeks
ago. |
