City ready for holidays

(Li Jing)

ONLY 43 percent of hotel rooms in Shenzhen had been booked by Sunday, according to the city’s holiday office. The number is disappointing, the office said, after conducting a survey among 56 hotels. Travel agencies said some bookings had not been confirmed. About 96,600 people have booked domestic tours during the National Day holidays, an increase of 42 percent over the same period last year while Shenzhen will receive about 120,000 tourists from outside during the period, up by 46 percent.

The travel boom has put train tickets in short supply, especially those to destinations with tourists attractions.

  Park to use all-in-one tickets

The China Folk Culture Villages will issue all-in-one tickets starting today, raising its admission price by 10 yuan (US$1.2) to 100 yuan. Other recreational activities such as skiing and theaters will be free to visitors. All major theme parks in Shenzhen have adopted all-in-one ticketing systems from today, with the highest price at 120 yuan. Happy Valley took the lead in introducing the system in May, followed by the Window of the World.

Checkpoints to put on extra staff

Shenzhen Customs will put on extra staff to keep border checkpoints flowing smoothly during the week-long holiday. Two more passageways will be opened at the Huanggang Checkpoint for the vehicle rush during the holidays.

  Azalea expo

Flower lovers can visit East Lake Park for an azalea exposition. About 70,000 pots of flowers are on display at the expo that covers an area of 40,000 sqm. (Li Jing)
