SHENZHEN played host to a total of 2.91 million tourists
during the week-long National Day holiday which ended Monday.
The figure was 178,000 more, or an increase of 6.51
percent over last year’s National Day holiday week, according
to the municipal holiday affairs office.
The city also raked in 2.159 billion yuan (US$259
million) in tourism revenue, 187 million yuan more, or an
increase of 9.48 percent over last year’s holiday.
Of the 2.91 million tourists, 370,000 were overseas
travelers.
Popular tourist venues such as Happy Valley, Window of
the World and Minsk World Military Theme Park each attracted
as many as 100,000 people during the holiday period.
Fast food restaurants witnessed booming business during
the holiday week with revenue up 86.4 percent over the same
period last year.
Surveys show that 97 percent of the tourists visiting
Shenzhen were satisfied with the environment and services. As
many as 30 percent said they were very pleased.
Among the major complaints filed by tourists were that
there were not enough tourist facilities in the city, many
tourist destinations were too crowded and inconvenience caused
by traffic jams.
