3. “Work out” has several different meanings. One refers
to “exercise.” When you exercise in order to improve your
health or appearance, you “work out.” Conversational examples:
Melody “works out” in the gym for two hours every night.
Matt’s a fat slob. He needs to start “working out” again.
4.“Chicken out (of)” [informal] When you do not do
something because you are afraid, you “chicken out” or
“chicken out” of it. Conversational examples: I was going to
ask Wanda to go to the dance with me, but I “chickened out.”
Peter’s mad at himself because he “chickened out” of asking
