Question corner

Question: Scientist started to use robots in exploring the Great Pyramid in Egypt. What do you think of it? Do you agree to do it or you would like to leave it as it is? Why?

  1. Charlotte(李馨), Class 11, Junior 3, Shenzhen Middle School

The Great Pyramid in Egypt is one of the most wonderful spectacles in the world. The pharaoh built is as his grave. The Egyptians made the mummies because they thought that if the body was not preserved the soul would not move on. Curses were carved on the walls to drive bandits away.

Now the scientists want to explore the pyramids to find out their secrets. I hope they are careful and protect the pyramids. If they don’t protect the pyramids and just take the valuable things away, they are nothing more than grave robbers.

Many expeditions found jewelry in some well-known places and took it away. They think they did a good job, but they destroyed the beauty of the tombs. The scientists should find out the secrets in the Great Pyramid, but they shouldn’t destroy it.

  2. Ren Yuequan(任月荃), Shenzhen Youth College

The Great Pyramid has 4,500 years of history. The secrets, such as how the ancient Egyptian built the tombs, will be exposed to the world with the robot’s help. It will be a great achievement. And it also shows that our science and technology has greatly improved. Humans can do anything.

But I don’t think we should plunder pyramids. I just want to keep things the way they are! Because the Great Pyramid is one of the seven wonders of the world! I’d like to keep its mystery and its original appearance. We can just imagine how the Egyptian king looked, how his people lived at that time and I feel that they can live with us forever in our memories. We know that when the king had the tomb built he said: “Anyone who breaks into this tomb will suffer dire misfortune.” The king didn’t want anyone to interfere with Egypt’s burial traditions. So I think we should leave the pyramid as it is.

  3. Senny(江森林), Class 4, Junior 3, Wenhui Middle School

There are so many unsolved puzzles about the Great Pyramid. It has been around for thousands of years. We’ll never fully understand it until we learn what lies inside. Some have tried to enter it, but mysteriously most of them died.

Now scientists don’t need to explore the inside of the Great Pyramid themselves. Robots can do it for them. That makes exploration much safer and easier.

So, why not explore? We’ve all longed to know the secrets of the Great Pyramid for so long!

  4. Iris(张静), 15, Hongling Middle School

Science and technology is becoming more and more advanced. We have invented a lot of machines and robots to help us. Robots can even explore areas that man can not safely visit!

The history of the Great Pyramid is long. Egypt at one time must have been prosperous, for it enjoyed a high level of civilization. Sending a robot to explore the pyramid will help scientists and historians learn the secrets of the pharaohs.

The knowledge could benefit us all.
