THE owner of a private car worth one million yuan
(US$120,000) is looking for a job.
The man, identified as Mr. Zhang, owns a Lincoln Towncar
which he bought six years ago, Daily Sunshine reported.
Zhang said he had been engaged in private business for
several years. However, he suffered a big setback recently and
had to close his business. He explained that he had no choice
but find a job to afford the high cost of keeping a car. He
has been advertising for a job in newspapers.
He said the car had covered nearly 160,000 kilometers
during the past seven years and it cost him 15,000 yuan each
year for maintenance alone, not including gasoline and tolls.
It was also expensive to repair the car, which carries an
examination fee of 600 yuan.
Zhang said he had been contacted by several employers but
had received no clear answer yet. He said he had no clear
target in terms of salary or post.
Several large companies interviewed by the paper said
they had some psychological pressure in hiring Zhang.
“Salary is the biggest problem for the employer. How much
shall we pay him? If the salary is lower than 10,000 yuan a
month, how can he afford his daily expenditure?” were
questions posed by one company spokesman.
Employers would be quite cautious in paying a high salary
to a person who could not assure them that he could match his
costs and was valuable to their businesses, he said.
