HK food poisoning hits 98
A HOLIDAY seafood meal on an outlying island left 98
people ill in a major food poisoning outbreak during the
disease’s peak season in Hong Kong. Department of Health
spokeswoman Diana Kam said the victims ate prawns and fish at
a restaurant on scenic Cheung Chau Island, then came down with
abdominal pains, diarrhea and vomiting Monday. The South China
Morning Post called it Hong Kong’s biggest single outbreak of
food poisoning. Kam said the department has recorded higher
numbers of victims hit by food poisoning at other restaurants
-- although not all in the same meal. The victims were all
still hospitalized yesterday but listed in stable condition,
Kam said. Authorities were investigating. Kam said the summer
period from June to August is the peak season for food
poisoning in Hong Kong. (SD-Agencies)
