Essence of Celine

  WHAT exactly does Celine Dion smell like? The scent wizards at Coty Inc., the perfume and cosmetics company that has partnered up with the singer to come up with an eau de Celine, say the fragrance “will capture the talent, style, femininity and confidence of which she has become a symbol.” Coty — whose beauty division makes Jovan and Stetson fragrances — and Dion announced Tuesday that the still unnamed scent (the name Celine is already trademarked by a rival designer) is expected to be on shelves across the globe early next year. “I wanted to partner with a beauty company that would develop a product in line with my values,” says Dion. “Like creating music, it is important that beauty products appeal both to one’s senses and emotions.”Eric Thoreux, president of Coty Inc., said: “Celine Dion is truly a symbol of the modern woman. She has an innate ability to manage a successful career and family with style and grace. She represents women’s aspirations for a balanced, but exciting life style.”If she moves perfume like she moves albums, Celine’s scent could smell like a winner. Celine is the latest celebrity to get her own product line, joining the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Taylor, Isabella Rossellini, Naomi Campbell and Michael Jordan.Early last month, Jennifer Lopez introduced her own perfume, called Glow. The lovely Latino posed nude in the shower to pitch her fragrance. A carefully placed arm covers what she doesn’t want everyone to see, and the only clothing she sports is a trendy head

  scarf. The advertisement reads: “Fresh, sexy, clean. It’s the Glow.”Stars engaging in industries outside of their original scope is neither a new nor a Western-style practice. More than 10 years ago, Li Ning, a household name in China, introduced a series of brand-new sports products under his name after becoming an Olympic champion. Now he is more talked about as an entrepreneur than as a sportsman. Deng Yaping, one of the world’s most aggressive women ping-pong players, Chen Yifei, who made a name as a painter first, and Chen Juanhong, a renowned model, are, among others, Chinese celebrities who have developed their own products.(SD-Agencies)
