VOTING for the 20th Golden Eagle Prize, one of the most
prestigious prizes for TV shows in China, is to wrap up
tomorrow.
Though the count is not yet complete, votes cast to date
show that Chen Daoming, leading actor of the TV serial Dynasty
of Kangxi, is far ahead in all other nominees for the Most
Popular Actor with over 18,000 votes. The actor in second
place is lagging behind Chen with around 10,000 votes and it
is virtually impossible for him to catch up to Chen before the
voting closes. It is almost certain that Chen will win the
title. But it is a grueling competition for the actresses.
Although Xu Qing is leading in the competition for her
performance in the serial A Chinese Woman at the Muzzle of the
Gestapo, the margin between her and four other actresses is so
close that a few votes could change the outcome. The Golden
Eagle Prize is the only prize for TV serials that is on vote
by Chinese audiences. Established in 1983, the yearly event
has become one of the biggest in the showbiz in China. This
year the ceremony will be held from November 1 to 5 in
Changsha, Hunan Province.
