Roger LinSHENZHEN Railway Station has suspended trains
for Beijing East and Huangchuan, Henan Province after a
landslide in Jiangxi halted rail traffic on the southern part
of a trunk railroad Monday.Other trains bound for Jiujiang,
Jiangxi Province and Zhengzhou, Henan Province, were diverted
to other routes.Maintenance workers and engineers dispatched
by the Ministry of Railways combined to repair the damaged
railway, which links the Chinese capital Beijing with Kowloon
in Hong Kong.The landslide left thousands of passengers
stranded in Shenzhen and Guangzhou East stations, which
yesterday began refunding passengers for canceled
trips.Shenzhen Railway Station yesterday urged passengers to
be patient and pay attention to information released by the
station.According to Xinhua News Agency, the train
cancellation and route diversion would remain effective today.
The landslide damaged the roadbed and demolished a section of
the track at Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, at 2:30 p.m. Monday,
Xinhua said. The landslide was believed to have been caused by
heavy rain that has drenched the province since July.
