Car theft ring broken
POLICE in Guangzhou have arrested four members of a
car-stealing gang that concentrated on luxury cars. The gang is
believed to be responsible for the theft of 50 cars over the
past year.
Police yesterday returned 20 stolen cars to their owners
in Guangzhou. Among the cars were three new Hondas made in
Guangzhou.
According to the ringleader, Chen Jingxiong, the gang
went to Guangzhou last August knowing that stolen luxury cars
were easy to sell. They usually took the cars to eastern
Guangzhou where they sold them for between 30,000 and 50,000
yuan each.Unlike many thieves who work at night, Chen’s people
operated in broad daylightIn February, a number of them were
seen checking into a hotel near Guangzhou Boulevard.Shortly
after, they were seen on a closed circuit TV monitor driving a
car away from the hotel’s underground car park.Car-theft in
Guangzhou has increased since the beginning of this year.
Police stepped up their efforts and broke a number of cases
which helped reduce the rate of car thefts in the city.(Flame
