  Mudslide in SW China FORTY people have been confirmed dead in a massive mudslide which occurred in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province last week, while 23 others are still missing. Most of the victims were villagers, according to rescuers. CARCCC foundedTHE Central Asia Regional Customs Cooperation Committee (CARCCC) held its first session Tuesday in Urumqi, capital of Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.As a part of the central Asia regional economic cooperation program of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the CARCCC will provide a cooperation platform for the customs bodies of central Asian countries, said Geert Van Der Linden, director of the East-Asia and Mid-Asia Bureau of ADB.Disappearing Beijing relicsSIGNS and signposts are planned to be erected in the urban Xuanwu District of Beijing to mark the site of 30 of its valuable ancient relics before the few remaining sank into oblivion and even disappeared by rapid urbanization.Service center roleTHE Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will concentrate on playing the role of a service center inthe swelling Guangdong-Hong Kong-Taiwan trade.Frederick Lam, deputy executive director of the TDC made the remarks Tuesday at a news conference to announce details of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic Cooperation Forum to be held on Aug. 27.Int’l education exchange eventTHSE 2002 International Education Cooperation Week (IECW), the largest international education cooperation and exchange event ever to be hosted in China since its entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), will take place in Beijing from Sept. 24 to 30.
