PAUL SCHRADER’S Bob Crane biopic Auto Focus and Jennifer
Dworkin’s documentary Love and Diane have been chosen to round
out the selections for this year’s 40th annual New York Film
Festival (September 27-October 13), according to Variety
reports.
Auto Focus looks at the dark side of the late Hogan’s
Heroes star, and Diane is about a Brooklyn family fighting
poverty and trying to stay together.
Two other pictures, Alexander Payne’s About Schmidt and
Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch Drunk Love, were previously
announced as the festival’s opener and centerpiece,
respectively.
Set to become the world’s biggest showcase for independent
film over a 10-day period, the Toronto International Film
Festival (September 5-14) unveiled its 2002 lineup Wednesday,
a slate featuring 88 films by U.S. directors or coproducers.
Among the topliners at this year’s event are Todd Haynes’
Far From Heaven, Joel Schumacher’s Phone Booth and Neil
Jordan’s The Good Thief. (SD-Agencies)
