Foreign firms drawn to freetrade areas

MORE foreign firms were attracted to Shenzhen’s bonded areas, lured by favorable policies and streamlined Customs and administrative procedures.Almost 50 foreign giants have set up firms in the three areas in the past 12 months.

Most of the newly established firms are high-tech enterprises, logistics firms, purchasing and distribution centers.

Among the Global 500, eight have set up branches in these areas.

The purchasing centers set up by Global 500 giants in Shenzhen are all located in the bonded areas because of eased foreign trade rules.

Although the competition among mainland cities for foreign investment is heating up, enthusiasm in pouring money into Shenzhen’s bonded areas has seen no decline.

Multinationals like Philips, Intel and Hitachi have expressed their strong interest in investing in the areas.

Foreseeing a surge of foreign funds, Shenzhen is planning to expand the bonded areas to make room for more newcomers.(Lin Min)
