TUNG CHEE HWA, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Wednesday extended welcome to the new director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR.

On the State Council’s appointment of Gao Siren to take over Jiang Enzhu as the director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Tung thanked Jiang for his significant contribution to Hong Kong, and wished him a healthy and happy life.

“I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Gao to his new post. I believe we would establish closer working relations with the Liaison Office in the years to come,”

Tung said in a statement. Tung said that Hong Kong has been successfully implementing the”one country, two systems,” “Hong Kong people running Hong Kong” and a high degree of autonomy over the past five years since the return of Hong Kong to the motherland in 1997.

The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, under the leadership of Jiang Enzhu, has been actively supporting the work of the Hong Kong SAR government in accordance with the Basic Law and working closely with us to maintain the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, he noted.

“The Liaison Office has made every effort to promote exchanges and contacts between the mainland and Hong Kong, and has enhanced Hong Kong people’s understanding of our country, helping us affirm our new identity with the reunification,” he added. (SD-Agencies)
