TUNG CHEE HWA, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region (SAR), Wednesday extended welcome to the
new director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s
Government in the Hong Kong SAR.
On the State Council’s appointment of Gao Siren to take
over Jiang Enzhu as the director of the Liaison Office of the
Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Tung thanked
Jiang for his significant contribution to Hong Kong, and
wished him a healthy and happy life.
“I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Gao to his
new post. I believe we would establish closer working
relations with the Liaison Office in the years to come,”
Tung said in a statement. Tung said that Hong Kong has
been successfully implementing the”one country, two systems,”
“Hong Kong people running Hong Kong” and a high degree of
autonomy over the past five years since the return of Hong
Kong to the motherland in 1997.
The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in
the Hong Kong SAR, under the leadership of Jiang Enzhu, has
been actively supporting the work of the Hong Kong SAR
government in accordance with the Basic Law and working
closely with us to maintain the prosperity and stability of
Hong Kong, he noted.
“The Liaison Office has made every effort to promote
exchanges and contacts between the mainland and Hong Kong, and
has enhanced Hong Kong people’s understanding of our country,
helping us affirm our new identity with the reunification,” he
