  Chinese 1st division

  SHANGHAI: Defending champion Dalian Shide beat Shanghai Zhongyuan 1-0 yesterday to top the standings with 41 points, Shenzhen Ping An was second with 37 and one game less after drawing with home side Chongqing Lifan 2-2, while Beijing Guo’an tied Bayi Zhenbang 1-1 to take third.

  Other results: Shenyang Jinde 1, Shandong Luneng 1; Sichuan Dahe 1, Yunnan Hongta 1; Qingdao Yizhong 1, Liaoning Bird 2; Shanghai Shenhua 3, Shaanxi Guoli 1.

  Premier League

  LONDON: Arsenal stayed on top of the Premier League with a 3-0 victory at Charlton Saturday.

  Thierry Henry and Sylvain Wiltord hit the target and Brazilian midfielder Edu added a third as the Gunners set a league record of scoring in 45 games in a row with 22 games unbeaten on the road and 27 in all.

  Harry Kewell headed Leeds United to its first victory over Manchester United for five seasons in a 1-0 victory.

  Liverpool won 3-2 at Bolton, Chelsea stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Newcastle, Fulham piled misery on Sunderland with a 3-0 victory, and promoted West Bromwich Albion got its third shutout win in a row, a 1-0 victory over Southampton.

  Everton came from behind to beat Middlesbrough with two strikes by Kevin Campbell at Goodison Park. Chinese midfielder Li Tie played 90 minutes for Everton.

  Bundesliga

  FRANKFURT: Michael Ballack scored both goals to help Bayern Munich seize the lead in the Bundesliga (German first division) with a 2-1 victory at Nuremberg Saturday.

  Defending champion Borussia Dortmund came from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against Schalke.

  Bremen 1-0 in Cottbus; Munich drew 2-2 with Wolfsburg; Hertha Berlin won 1-0 in Bielefeld; and Borussia Moenchengladbach and Stuttgart played to a 1-1 draw.

  Power failure

  MADRID: Real Madrid’s match at Real Betis was suspended Saturday after a series of power cuts while first-half goals by Luis Enrique Martinez and Javier Saviola gave FC Barcelona a 2-0 win at Athletic de Bilbao in the second round of the Spanish league.

  Last charges dropped

  PHILADELPHIA: The last two counts against NBA All-Star Allen Iverson will be dropped because his accusers don’t want to pursue the case. Iverson originally was charged with 14 counts, including four f elonies, for allegedly barging into an apartment with a gun and threatening two men while looking for his wife.

  Basketball

  TAICANG, Jiangsu: China beat Yugoslavia 72-65 yesterday, the second day of the Women’s World Basketball Championship. Australia thrashed Argentina 85-53.

  On Saturday, Brazil held off a third-quarter rally by China to win 85-73, and United States thrashed Russia 89-55.
