RAINSTORMS have drenched drought-stricken Shenzhen since
Saturday and meteorologists expect more rain today.
The city recorded more than 120 mm of rain from Saturday
to Sunday afternoon that replenished parched reservoirs in
Longgang and Bao’an districts. The observatory hoisted the
amber rainstorm signal in the morning and afternoon Sunday.
Pingdi in Longgang District received the heaviest
rainfall of 200 mm. Rains have also brought down temperatures
in the city.
Meteorologists said the rainstorms were caused by a
low-pressure area that moved from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous
Region to coastal areas in Guangdong in the past few days.
Rainstorms also hit the central and western parts of the
province.
Experts expected the low-pressure clouds to continue
hovering above Guangdong until later today, but expected the
rain to subside as the clouds move away.
A sub-tropical high pressure above the western pacific is
expected to influence South China later in the week, when the
city’s weather can be expected to return to normal, according
to weathermen.(Roger Lin)
