A YOUNG man has been sentenced to seven years’ jail for wounding his girl friend’s father with a knife in Enping, southern Guangdong Province.

　　The man, surnamed Yan, 18, fell in love with his 17-year-old girlfriend during the Spring Festival. Later, the girl often took her boyfriend home to spend the night together taking care to avoid meeting her family.

　　On June 25, the two returned to the girl’s bedroom at about 10 p.m. They chatted and played cards until about 2 a.m., when the girl fell asleep.

　　Then Yan went to the toilet, taking a knife with him. The girl’s father heard him and thought a thief had broken into the house.

　　The father confronted Yan who panicked and stabbed the girl’s father in the stomach. But he kept shouting: “Thief, thief,” and Yan stabbed him again in the right breast. The girl’s mother then came out and caught Yan by the neck from behind. The father snatched the knife from Yan and stabbed back. The woman wrapped a quilt around Yan’s head and he fell unconscious.
