A Turkish man in Shenzhen

Zhong Li

“TASHAKKOR,” which means “thank you” in Turkish, is a word I learned from Vedat Saygin.

Working at Aydin Kardesler Ltd. China Office, Vedat’s primary responsibility is to establish business relationships between Shenzhen and Turkey. He also works as a translator. So language is quite important to him.

He can speak Turkish, of course, and he also speaks English very fluently. Now he is determined to learn Chinese.

“Putonghua (mandarin) is difficult to learn. But I have confidence,” Vedat said.

“My wife wants to learn it, too.” he added.

Speaking of his wife, Vedat seemed very excited. He told the reporter that he is going to be a father soon.

“My wife is due at the end of this year. And we are going to have the baby here in Shenzhen.”

Not having been in China for long, Vedat has not been to many places in Shenzhen. But he said he was amazed when he visited the Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden.

“There is a huge temple in the garden. To my surprise, I saw many people praying as if they were in Nirvana. The temple also amazed me with its structure. It was like a castle where people have direct communications with their gods.”

“It seems that there are a lot of things in common between China and Turkey in terms of civilization. Both countries have a long history. I like China and I like Shenzhen,” he concluded.
