MAILING moon cake is becoming a popular choice among the
4.8 million immigrant workers in Shenzhen.
For this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, Shenzhen Post Bureau
(SPB), with the cooperation of many well-known moon cake
companies, has introduced a moon cake express mail service,
which can cover above 2,800 cities and towns in the country.
"I used to send some money back to my wife and son in
Lanzhou, Gansu for the Mid-Autumn Festival every year. But
with the introduction of the new postal service this year, I
chose to mail three boxes of moon cakes to them," said an
engineer surnamed Wu, who is now working at a computer company
in Shenzhen Hi-Tech Industrial Park.
"I cannot go back to my hometown for this year's
festival, although I'm really missing my parents, grandparents
and my boyfriend in Changchun, Jilin. So I decided to send
them choice boxes of moon cakes to show my special love," said
a girl surnamed Dong, who is now working in a restaurant in
downtown.
With Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, over 480 post
offices or agencies with SPB in the six districts of Shenzhen
have become the busiest places in the city with immigrant
workers crowding in to send moon cakes home to their families
and friends.
"It is the first time that we introduced the moon cake
express mail service. By Sept 13, we had made a turnover of
about 260,000 yuan from this special service.
"This Saturday was the busiest day for us, although the
rain today has stopped some customers. Everyday we receive an
average of above 600 customers, and we need to send away an
average of above 800 parcels" said Feng Ying, deputy director
of Jianshe Road Post Office.
The freight volume of moon cakes departing from Shenzhen
Bao'an International Airport had reached 10 tons by last
Saturday. The freight volume has been increasing daily over
the past two weeks. |
