SHENZHEN officials will showcase the city's most advanced technologies at the China Hi-Tech Fair 2002 as they endeavor to outwit rival cities which  host similar events.

Vice Mayor Li Decheng, touring the fair venue Wednesday, said the high-tech fair in Shenzhen outperformed the other three fairs in other parts of the country by displaying the world's most frontier high-tech development through its high-tech forums.

There will be 62 renowned scientists and government officials including Nobel laureates from 13 countries addressing the forum at this year's fair, which opens tomorrow.

Li told organizers that Shenzhen's future economic development would rely on high-tech development, a strategy that highlighted the importance of the exhibition.

The fair will also showcase some of China's top technologies, including the first CPU developed by Chinese scientists, Dragon Chip I.

The Ministry of Science and Technology is bringing 189 IT items to the fair including electronics, new material and space technologies, which represent China's highest technical prowess in the sectors.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences is dispatching a delegation of 368 members with 605 items to the fair.

More than 1,000 journalists from home and abroad will cover the fair.
