AN expatriate from Denmark, Rasmus S. Rasmussen,
displays a stern expression which he says is possibly related
to his job.
As chief of a mold-producing company, Rasmus said his job
does not allow small mistakes. He likes having fun, playing
golf and going to bars.
Yet he couldn’t help complaining that some local mold
production firms were not professional enough. He talked about
Mao Zedong, the late Chinese leader, and demonstrated a good
knowledge of China. However, he said because of his cultural
background, he was still not used to the way some Chinese
expressed themselves. Even when they had different ideas, they
wouldn’t bring them to the table.
“You have to guess and such communication requires
patience, acceptance and understanding,” he said.
The company chief said he has had to fire some workers.
“When they didn’t implement work plans. It’s their job.
“Of course, communication becomes easier when we get to
know each other little by little,” he said.
Rasmus said he was clear about local prices after working
four years in the city. “Rent is low but restaurants are
getting more expensive,” he said.
