FOUR high-tech industrial spies, Beaupre (Olek Krupa), Alice, Jernigan and Unger, steal a top-secret computer microchip from the US Defence Departent, and, to fool Customs, hide it in a remote-control toy car.
Through a baggage mix-up at the airport, grumpy Chicago senior citizen Mrs Hess (Marian Seldes) gets the toy and gives it to her neighbour, eight-year-old Alex Pruitt (Alex D Linz) .
Spies want to get the toy back before their clients get angry and decide to burglarize every house at Alex's street to find the chip.
Little do they know that Alex is home alone with the chicken pox. Alex reports seeing the "burglars", but his older siblings, Molly (Scarlett Johnsson) and Stan (Seth Smith), along with parents Jack (Kevin Kliner) and Karen (Haviland Morris) think he's making up the story.
Alex, left home alone again, must do everything he can to thwart their efforts to get into his house.
(Genre: family/comedy)

Comment: A family comedy without the family.
Additional information
With Macaulay Culkin well into his teen years, producer John Hughes needed a new Home Alone leading lad. He found one in adorable Alex D Linz, who had charmed audiences as Michelle Pfeiffer’s son in 1996’s One Fine Day. Rather than try to pretend little Alex was the new Kevin McCallister or some forgotten McCallister cousin. Hughes created an entirely different setting, while staying true to the “domestic invaders get pratfall comeuppance” formula that turned the first two films into worldwide blockbusters.
